Representation of Gender in Trailers

Fish Tank

In the trailer Mia is masculinised throughout yet this is often demonstrated to be something that is out of her control and inside she has feminine characteristics. Her masculinity is shown through her getting into fights with other girls and her drinking beer from the can. However the scenes after show her abusive mother and raise questions within the audience of wether she is just a victim of circumstance. Her vulnerability and humanity are later shown as her friendship develops with the gypsy boy.
This representation of a woman forced into masculinity yet being vulnerable and innocent under the skin is something we plan to pursue in our trailer however to a lesser extent. We plan to show our main character to be a delicate woman plunged into the world of prostitution who is then rescued by an ordinary man with a similar friendly representation to the gypsy boy in fishtank.

Bullet Boy Trailer

In the bullet boy trailer a predominantly male world is shown where most males are trouble makers or stuck in a world of crime. Women are the minority in the trailer and their purpose is show to be an almost guiding light figure to help guide the males out of trouble. Women are also shown to be those emotionally effected by the males actions, for example the scene of a woman crying because of the trouble her son is in. The girlfriend is also shwon throughout the trailer asking her boyfriend to stay out of trouble.
This representation of a male dominated world where women are smiply advice givers is something we will not be pursuing in our own trailer, our aim is to generate a feeling that our female character has been thrust into a world of drugs and prostitution and as a result had to form a strong character to cope. Our male will also be the opposite of those in bullet boy and actually be quite a timid undeveloped character that flourishes throughout the trailer with the aid of our female actor.
