One of the main reasons people tend to watch British Social Realism films may be due to the ease of which they can relate with the characters or situations shown in the film. As British citizens we are fairly familiar
with the typical issues portrayed in British Social Realism films and therefore take pleasure in being able to
identify with the scenarios shown to us.

Diversion: This is a form of escapism as the individual seeks to break routine or find entertainment
Socialization: As humans we have a desire to discuss and relate with others about things we have seen / experienced, films are no exception
Surveillance: Films can provide an insight into issues being experienced by society at the time
Identification: We like to identify with films and watch our favorite actors etc
